Dear State Delegate: This is an official communication from the Utah Republican Party to all State Delegates regarding the upcoming State Convention. The Utah Republican Party State Nominating Convention will be held at the South Towne Expo Center, Sandy, Utah. The convention will convene on April 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. I am asking that you make every reasonable effort to attend. Included you will find the proposed convention agenda and rules; also you will find a diagram of the meeting location, and other relevant information by clicking here. Please find below answers to frequently asked questions:
How long will the convention last? The 2014 Nominating Convention should adjourn no later than 3 p.m.
Where do I park and what is the cost? Parking is free. You can park on the west and north side of the convention center. When that parking fills up you may park directly west of the convention center across State Street towards the south end of the Expo Center.
How should I dress? You may dress casual or business casual. I encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.
How early should I arrive? If you do not have a multi-county race (multi-county details later) I encourage you to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. because you will need to get your credentials. Also, if you have any last minute candidate questions you can visit their booths.
Where do I go once I am in the building? If you do not have a multi-county race then you will go to Hall 5 (the very north end on the building) to register and get your credentials. If you do have a multi-county race then you will go to Hall 2 (the south end of the building) to get your credentials and attend your multi-county race prior to convention.
What are the multi-county races? These are Utah House and Senate districts that encompass more than one county. State delegates from those districts will vote on those nominees prior to the convention convening at 10 a.m. There are five House races (House Districts 1,53,54,55, and 69), and four Senate races (Senate Districts 12,18,26, and 28).
What do I do if I have a multi-county race? These races will be held in Hall 2, starting at7:30 a.m. for House Districts and 8:30 a.m. for Senate Districts. If you live in one of these House or Senate Districts please plan on attending and voting in your respective multi-county race. If you are voting in a multi-county House or Senate race you will go to Hall 2 (you will get your credentials there), which is at the south end of the building. Some multi-county House or Senate candidates in uncontested races may invite you to Hall 2, for a meet and greet before the convention so keep that in mind.
What are my responsibilities at the convention? As a state delegate to the 2014 UTGOP Nominating Convention you are responsible for approving the rules and agenda for the convention first, then casting your vote in your respective Congressional District (either1, 2, 3 or 4) race, your multi-county race (if applicable, you would vote in this race before the convention), and also voting on any platform amendments, constitution and bylaws amendments, and/or resolutions that may come before the convention.
What else will happen at the convention? You will also hear reports from our statewide and federal delegation, as wells as other reports.
Where can I find additional information about the convention? Visit www.utgop.org.
I look forward to seeing you at the 2014 Nominating Convention and I thank you for commitment to the Utah Republican Party! Respectfully,
Chairman James Evans Utah Republican Party
